Getting Cool, Staying Cool: A Blonde Handbook

“Cool-toned blondes really hit when celebrities like Lady Gaga and the Kardashians took note of the look,” explains color superstar and Cosmoprof Artistic Team Member, Olivia Smalley. “For hairdressers, that meant that we had to adapt by finding the perfect toners, shampoos, and care products to maintain the health and color of that cool tone.”

Here’s Olivia’s Rulebook…

Keep your cool with cleansing:
“Blonde Life Violet Shampoo and Conditioner are the ideal duo for at-home care between salon visits; together, they keep gold tones away. The shampoo deposits just enough pigment to banish yellow and maintain brightness without turning your hair silvery or purple. And it’s also great when silver hair takes on a yellowish tinge from minerals in the water.”

Avoid drying products:
“One of the reasons I love Blonde Life Violet Shampoo and Conditioner system is that it never dries out the hair; It’s Sulfate-Free and was formulated with fragile blondes in mind. Us blondies are prone to dryness, and this shampoo system not only focuses on toning, but also on hydration and moisture. The best!”

Ask your colorist for the perfect formula:
“Joico Blonde Life Lightener will get you the perfect lift, along with my favorite LumiShine 9NV Toner for that cool, icy look.”

Try the cool-blonde solution for gray:
“If noticeable gray or silver roots begin to threaten your blonde hair, consider going with a cooler tone of blonde to blend the tell-tale grow-out. Unlike warm blonde, the shades will mingle subtly together.”

Tweak your makeup:
“Style-wise, I’ve always felt that cool-toned blondes have an edge to them; and makeup should follow suit. Steer to bolder lipstick shades and striking eye makeup with strong lashes and liner. (For golden-hued girls, I would opt for a warm-toned, smoky eye paired with a nude lip.)
